I began training at bjj cork in 2010. I remember speaking with Liam before the first class I took and
he assured me that I would be training in a friendly & safe environment and he has been true to his word.
Bjj cork is a club with a mix of ages and levels and there is always a great camaraderie on the mats.
With Jiu Jitsu training 6 days a week Liam provides a system of learning that mixes technique, drilling, open mat and sparring sessions.
Training at BJJ Cork has developed my game so much – Liam is a hugely dedicated coach with a real knack for breaking down and explaining techniques. My training partners are as friendly and welcoming a bunch of people as you could ever hope to meet and the craic is always good on the mats – we all push each other and the training is tough, but everyone also supports each other. I’m never made to feel any different on account of being female, though I’m sure some of my larger training partners take a little extra care with me!
My name is Kevin, I am purple belt and I have been training for 6-7 years with Bjj Cork.
I came from no athletic background whatsoever! In fact I was out of shape, very out of shape.
From the start I loved training bjj, the warm ups are always different and movement orientated so that it compliments
what you would in self defense or in competition.
The biggest challenge for me was getting in the door to begin with. I always had a massive intererst in BJJ even before I started but found it hard to muster up the courage to go. I told myself maybe il try to get to a somehwhat decent level of fitness first etc. One time I even got as far as the front door when I turned around and didnt go in!
The next time however I did go in and for almost 7 years now (which flew by), ive been on the mats ever since.
The instructions and teaching from Liam is top notch no matter what level you are, you will feel comfortable asking questions or trying new challenges.
No matter whether you are experienced in BJJ already or its your first time, our team make sure you are treated just as welcome as any other member.
As a member of the team myself I can attest that we take great pride in this!
I began training in Pedro Bessa BJJ Cork in November 2015. Although I have previous martial arts training over a number of years it can still be intimidating starting a new martial art in a new gym. After speaking to Liam on the first night I was immediately made feel welcome. The class was fantastic and I couldn’t wait to learn more.
The atmosphere in the gym is brilliant. Everybody is nice and the higher belts are very generous with their time. There were a number of occasions where I arrived early when higher belts have offered to go over some technique with me. This also happens when rolling at the end of the class. Everybody is willing to help and show you how to fix the mistakes you are making.
The classes with Liam and Brendan are very enjoyable, and also very challenging. My fitness has greatly improved over a short period of time. Liam and Brendan give very clear instruction and have no problem showing you the techniques again. I am comfortable asking questions even if they may be off topic the instructors are very gracious and they always answer all questions.
I highly recommend Pedro Bessa BJJ Cork to anybody looking to learn jiu jitsu for fitness or sport. The gym is very clean, the instructors are extremely knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is better than any gym I have ever trained at.
Hi…I’m a 33 year old white belt who’s been training properly for around a year now.
I’ve played a lot different sports in my time, but I can safely say, nothing comes close to BJJ in terms of enjoyment and what you actually get out of it.
I’ve a hectic enough home and worklife but I always make sure to get down to the academy as often as possible.
If you’re thinking of giving BJJ a go but are not quite sure yet, I would say just jump straight in!
Once you get a feel for the BJJ lifestyle, there’s no going back! Not alone will you be joining one of Irelands Premier Academies and best black belts, but you’ll be joining a great bunch of people too.
I started training at Bjj cork 8 years ago and I haven’t looked back.
The training has done more for my fitness and confidence than anything I’ve ever tried,
when I first walked in the door at Bjj cork I was actually expecting a bit of an intimidating atmosphere but I couldn’t have been more wrong,
everyone there was really friendly and shook my hand. The standard of training at Bjj cork is really high this is down to the effort put in by head coach Liam Beechinor and the way he breaks things down making all aspects of Bjj easy to understand.
Anyone thinking of starting Brazilian jiu jitsu will not be disappointed with what bjj cork has to offer. I’ve found a sport that has changed my life for the better and made life long friends.
BJJ Cork is the most welcoming gym i have ever been to in my life. It caters for absolutely everyone, whether you want to try a new sport, get fitter, learn self defence or compete to a high level. The coaches are motivating ,encouraging and very approachable. There is no pressure or demand to train, creating a very relaxed atmosphere allowing students to train when suits them. Anyone who is even considering taking up jiujitsu or MMA should pop in, you wont regret it.
I have been training at bjj cork for more than 5 years, when i landed in ireland.i have been welcomed by every single teammate, and i never changed gym because of the positive energy and the training quality.each single person helped me to build up my game.here we all have different goals, different shapes, different ages, but we all manage to help each other to get better and to reach our goals, to be a team. There is such a diversity and a quality on the mat that I feel that i am learning everyday from everyone, white belt to blackbelt.
